The mission of the Force of Mind: Soldiers in Transition (FoM) program is to deliver relevant, accurate and timely transitional information and services to current and former Canadian Armed Forces members (CAF) and their spouses in order to assist them through a comprehensible, guided and safe transition from the military “mind-set” to a civilian “mind-set”.

FoM is not for everyone. If you wish to create sustainable change and be successful in your transition, at every level, (while being true to your inner core values, beliefs and acquired skills) you should consider this program.

With the training provided by FoM, you will learn not only how to write your own résumé, get ready for interviews and market yourself, but also how to transfer your current “map of the world” into your new life style.

Force-Of-Mind_SoldierBusUsing Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques, you will come away with a clear understanding of the valuable skill and expertise you have to offer. You will learn how to develop and apply your new career/life goals while promoting your accumulated skills and experience.

What is NLP

First things first: NLP is not therapy, nor is it about therapy. It is about educating and teaching people how to run their own brains (mind).

Think about it this way- the first time you were taught drill, you were taught different movements by “X” number of squads, right?

For example: Right Dressing – putting three ranks in straight lines:

  1. Squad 1: shoot the left foot forward one pace, then raise the right foot and drive it down beside the left foot, assuming the position of attention.
  2. Squad 2: quickly shift your head to the right while at the same time raising your right arm perpendicular with your body to touch the shoulder of the person to your right
  3. Squad 3: shuffle your feet forward, back, to the left or right in to align your body with the person to your right.

And then you get to repeat the drill movement over and over again, until it becomes a muscle memory, a reflex, that as soon as you hear the command yelled out you know exactly what to do: your brain knows how to execute the movement to perfection without giving it a second thought.

This speaks volumes to someone who has lived a military lifestyle for a long period of time having to “drill” their minds on how to transition into a new set of “movements” in order to effect an orderly transition into a new life style.

The terminology is as follows:

Neuro: Relates to neurology, the ways in which we process information from our five senses (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory and gustatory) through our brain and nervous system.

How long have you been serving? How is your military experience encoded in your way of life?

Linguistic: Relates to the use of language systems – words, symbol systems including gestures and postures – to code, organize and attribute meanings to our internal representations of the world, and to communicate internally and externally.

When you explain your military experience and your way of life to others, family, friends, civilian co-workers, etc., are you being understood? Or can you not explain your extended experience?

Programming: Relates to how once the information has been processed, it affects our thinking and as a result, how we act.

Does your military experience and way of life affect the way you view the world? What happens when you express your views or behave in a certain way? Do others get you?

The overall objective of the program is to
get you out there, READY!

We will combine effective résumé building, interview skills, and marketing tools with NLP techniques in order to successfully prepare for your transition.

You will leave the training with the following tangibles:

  • A goal;
  • A master copy of your résumé;
  • Skills and knowledge on how to conduct successful interviews; and
  • A tool kit on how to market yourself.

You will have a better understanding of your “map of the world” and how it will apply to your new career path as you transition.
